The Purple Heart is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed by enemy action while serving, on or after April 5, 1917, with the U.S. military. With its forerunner, the Badge of Military Merit, which took the form of a heart made of purple cloth, the Purple Heart is the oldest military award still presented to U.S. military members. Our organization, the MOPH 1LT Todd Weaver Chapter 1754, is for those individuals awarded the Purple Heart who reside in and around Williamsburg, Poquoson, and York/James City Counties, VA. Our ranks include combat wounded veterans whose service spans from the Vietnam War to the ongoing Global War on Terrorism.
